Grammar in use(그래머 인 유즈) Intermediate에서 Unit 62을 공부해보았습니다. Unit 62은 to, for, and so that (Purpose)에 대한 내용입니다. 목적을 나타내는 표현에 대해 공부를 하는 시간입니다.

 

Section A

Section A는 to 에 대한 예시를 설명하고 있습니다.

• To... to say why somebody does something(= the purpose of an action): 
  • "Why are go there?"  "To meet my friend"
  • My colleague called me to let me know the meeting time.
• To... to say why something exists(= its purpose):
  • This milestone is to inform the right direction.
  • This e-mail is to ask you a question.

Section B

Section B는 to 에 대한 새로운 예시를 설명하고 있습니다.

• To... to say what can be done or must be done with something:
  
  • It is hard to find a place to live.
  • Would you like something to drink?
  • I have a lot of work to deal with today.
  • I need something to eat.
• Money/time/chance/opportunity/energy/courage, etc. to do something:
  
  • My mother gave me money to buy something.
  • Have you got opportunity to practice your presentation?
  • I need more time to think about it.

Section C

Section C는 for vs to에 대해 설명하고 있습니다.

• for + noun :
  • I am going to USA for a business trip.
  • What would you like for lunch?
  • Let's go to the grocery market for dinner.
• to + verb :
  
  • I am going to USA to attend the conference.
  • What would you like to eat?
  • Let's go to the grocery market to buy some food.

Section D

• so that :
  • Please hurry so that you won't be late.
  • I am learning English so that I will live in USA.
  • We went to LA so that we could join the travel.

Exercises

Exercise 62.1은 to를 사용하여 두개의 문장을 결합해 새로운 하나의 문장을 만들어보는 연습입니다.

• I had to go to the dentist to care my teeth.
• I am saving money to buy iphone.

Exercise 62.2는 문장을 완성해보는 연습입니다.

• I didn't have enough time to have lunch because of a lot of work to do.
• "Would you like something to eat?"   "Yes, a piece of cake please."
• I don't have anything to eat.

Exercise 62.3은 문장 내에 to 또는 for을 넣는 연습입니다.

• I am going to USA for a business trip.
• You need 1 year experience to take this role.

Exercise 62.4는 so that을 사용하여 문장을 완성하는 연습입니다.

• I wore thin clothes so that I wouldn't be hot.
• Please arrive early so that we will not be late.
